Texas Holdem Tournament Strategy – Sit and Go Poker Tournaments

Welcome to the fourth in my Texas Holdem Strategy Series, focusing on no limit Texas Holdem poker tournament play and associated strategies. In this article, we’ll examine the “Sit and Go” tournament – the most popular online poker tournament format today.

When I first started playing in Sit and Go tournaments, I was beginning to think they called it “sit and go” because you sat down, played a little, then it was time to go do something else since you’d just been whacked and knocked out of the tournament! These tournaments can be really tough, since they’re effectively like being at the “final table” of a regular tournament.

The recent popularity of playing online Sit & Go tournaments sometimes amazes me. On any given evening, you can try to jump into a Sit and Go (SNG) table on Party Poker, for example, and easily find yourself competing just to get into a seat before that table fills up, forcing you to go find another table (especially on lower-entry fee tables). I’ve seen times when it can take up to 10 attempts to get into a Sit and Go tournament table during prime time. That’s because there are literally thousands of players across the world who are hungry to get into these tournaments and hopefully win some money.

All of the major online poker rooms now offer Sit and Go format games now, so you can find a place to play just about everywhere. You can think of these games as being very similar to small “satellite” tournament games that surround the bigger poker tournaments at traditional poker tournament venues. They also somewhat resemble play at a final table in a regular tournament, with one key exception – nobody at this table earned their way to this tournament table – they simply paid their entry-fee to play there. Because of this, the broad range of players and skill levels you’re likely to encounter varies wildly – one of many challenges you’ll face in Sit and Go play.

Generally, there are two types of Sit and Go tournaments offered. Single table and multi-table tournaments. Nowadays, there is also a faster game, sometimes referred to as “Turbo” mode SNG tournaments. In these games, the tempo of the tournament is much faster (blinds go up every 5 minutes instead of 15 minutes), with the blinds increasing much faster and less time allowed to make your decisions. This is a very challenging game format, but it does move along much faster than a traditional Sit and Go tournament.

You can also get into 4-player and heads-up (2 player) games, which just effectively puts you into the poker tournament final table, short-handed mode of operation immediately, so you can play the end-game out from there. I don’t really prefer these games, though, since there are far fewer players and therefore the pool size available to win is much smaller and not as worthwhile.

In general, two-table Sit and Go’s are much more profitable, since they begin with more players (18 to 20), making the prize pool larger and more attractive. Once you know how to play and win in these Sit and Go tournaments and can adjust your play appropriately, the number of tables and players really doesn’t matter as much, since you’ll be able to adapt your play quickly as the situation changes around you.

Some of my favorite places to play Sit & Go tournaments include Party Poker, Poker Stars and PrimaPoker’s Captain Cook’s poker rooms. There are many awesome poker rooms out there, with a wide range of players frequenting each of them. They are all very similar.

There are a number of different entry-fee levels to choose from, typically ranging from $5 up to $5,000. There is very little difference in playing in the lower limit games in the $5 to $30 range. When you get above the $30 threshold, the level of players you’ll encounter improves dramatically. The poker room site typically takes a “rake”, a fee of around 10% for hosting the tournament, and the balance of the funds go into the prize pool. In single-table SNG tournaments, the payout goes to the top 3 finishers. In two-table games, the top 4 places are generally paid.

In higher entry-fee games, you’ll be playing against some very good players. In these high tier games, you’ll encounter some of the best, most dangerous players around. If you’re interested in getting into these high stakes games, one way is to win enough at the lower stake games so that you earn, or leverage, your smaller entry-fees into the bigger games, a traditional way that satellite games work and a good approach to take.

I play in a lot of Sit and Go tournaments and regular tournaments, both online and in casinos and poker rooms. Throughout all of this, I have finally learned how to win consistently at Sit and Go tournaments. There are some key areas that you must focus on and shore up in order to properly “shape” your play and end up in the money.

You’ll need a well-rounded approach, though, to place in the money consistently at Sit and Go tournaments, including:

* Playing Position Correctly – you’ll need to know how to use position in the Sit and Go tournament to your advantage, which hands to play in which positions and how to keep from losing your chips from poor positions. Earlier in the tournament, it’s best to be more conservative with your play by only playing the best hands from the best positions.

* Adjusting to Changing Conditions – the key to winning Sit and Go tournaments is adjusting your play style and approach as the blinds and number of players increases. Done correctly, you’ll end up in the final 3 in the money up to half of the time (no approach you can take will allow you to win all of the time). As the game progresses, you must adjust or the blinds will eat you up.

* Winning Heads-up Play – arguably one of the most misunderstood, yet most fun part of any tournament, is playing heads-up against another good player. Learning to play winning heads-up poker means the difference between being the Winner and 2nd Place – a huge difference in payout in all tournaments goes to the winner, along with the recognition as the champion, so you must learn to play great heads-up poker. In general, you must play much more aggressively heads up than you would otherwise.

* Beating Aggressive Players – see my article on playing vs. aggressive players, which will definitely make a difference for Sit and Go play, as it explains how to take advantage of aggressive and wild players, without losing all of your chips in the process.

* Online Tells – there are many different special tells that you can use when playing online. Do you know them? Do you use them? If not, chances are they’re being used against you! For example, when players use checkboxes online and make a lot of their decisions ahead of time, then suddenly they’re not using the checkbox (because they’re taking longer), that could be a tell that they’re having to think things through more, which could be a tell. If they use checkboxes and act instantly, chances are they don’t have a very good hand, so didn’t even need to think about it (just clicked the checkbox and now waiting on the next card).

* Successful Bluffing and Blind Stealing – one of the most important moves in poker is bluffing the opponents, and in tournament play, you must be capable of successfully bluffing in order to survive the blinds and antes and to win heads-up. You can’t bluff weak players, so don’t even try. You’ll need to learn how determine the style or type of the players, so you’ll recognize who to bluff.

The next time you’re thinking about playing a poker tournament, give the Sit and Go a try. It’s a fast-paced tournament, where you’ll have the opportunity to experience first hand what it’s like to play at that Texas Holdem poker tournament final table. You’ll go through a sequence of fast play and changing conditions, starting from a full table of 10 players, progressing rapidly to only 5 to 6. Then, if you’re a good enough player, you’ll find yourself in the most dangerous position of all – where you’re one of only 4 players remaining, so you’re only one seat out of the money. The key goal is surviving to the heads-up phase, so you get a shot at being the tournament winner, who receives the bulk of the prize pool.

So, you can practice for bigger tournament events by playing in Sit and Go tournaments and that way you’ll be very comfortable when you do make it that final table in a big Texas Holdem poker tournament, and you’ll have a lot of fun and gain some great Texas Holdem tournament poker experience along the way.

Alcohol and Domestic Violence – Is There a Link?

Normally, alcohol works to make people feel more mellow and relaxed. It slows down your brain, which makes some people sleepy. However, there are people who instead become loud and angry after drinking alcohol. Thus, this can make it seem like alcohol makes people more likely to commit domestic violence. But is there an actual link between alcohol and abuse?

First, it is important to understand how alcohol affects your body, especially your brain. It increases the effects of the inhibitory signaling in your brain, which decreases your reaction speed as well as your coordination. However, alcohol also makes it more difficult for you to think clearly and make rational decisions. Thus, if someone has been drinking, he or she may be less able to consider the consequences of committing domestic abuse.

In one study that looked at a group of men in the armed forces, the researchers noticed a correlation between heavier drinking and incidences of spousal abuse. However, they also noted that these heavier drinkers tended to be abusive even when not drinking. Additionally, the study found that women who drank more heavily were also more likely to be victims of abuse as compared to women who did not drink as much.

Therefore, many researchers warn against automatically associating drinking with spousal abuse. They say that this correlation can be nothing more than a coincidence, such as sunburns and eating ice cream. During the hot summer months, people are more likely to eat ice cream as well as stay out in the sun, leading to sunburns. However, this does not mean that the two are related.

Instead, researchers claim that alcoholism could be an “excuse” for abusers. For instance, they can blame their rage on drinking rather than take responsibility for the psychological issues which lead to abuse. Additionally, drinking can make people less able to perform household tasks, which bonds couples. This can later lead to arguments and fights.

Whether alcoholism and domestic violence are truly linked, spousal abuse is unacceptable. If you have been abused by your spouse, it may seem as if you are not able to escape this difficult situation. However, an attorney can help you get the legal protection that you need. The Ex-Factor – Making Peace With Your Ex

When a relationship ends, there may be negative feelings and unresolved conflicts. If children are involved, their wellbeing must be considered when former spouses/partners interact after a split. This article will help identify some tools you can use to achieve a peaceful resolution to the end of a relationship, and to cope with challenges and frustrations.

1) Define your boundaries

What role will you now play in your ex’s life? What role will s/he take on in yours? Perhaps you want to remain friends, or maybe you feel it’s best to remain at arm’s length. If you have children, co-parenting is going to link your separate lives. What will be best for everyone involved, especially the kids? Give some thought and discussion to how your relationship will change, and how you can respect one another’s boundaries with respect and civility.

2) Communication is key

Some couples are able to keep healthy channels of communication open, discussing issues like child visitation and finances cooperatively. Others struggle with hostility and find it difficult to engage in any manner. If you have reason to communicate with your ex, it’s worth the effort to help keep the interaction civilized and focused on the issue at hand, such as visitation. Negative communication is stressful for everyone, and can result in long-term emotional repercussions for your children.

3) Put aside your pride

When your ex may have caused you emotional pain, or when you feel the separation or its effects are unfair or undesirable, it can be almost impossible not to engage in the blame game. Ultimately, this only causes harm to you and your children. Your self esteem suffers and your kids feel torn and confused. Hold your head up. The view is much nicer from the high road, I promise you that. Even if you are not in a place of forgiveness, you can present yourself as calm, respectful, and agreeable when possible.

4) “Wonder what she’s up to…?”

Whether it is driving by your ex’s home to see whose car is in the driveway, checking Facebook status, or quizzing friends about his activities, preoccupation with your ex is not a healthy place to be. Curiosity, nostalgia, even sparks of jealousy are normal feelings after a breakup. Acting on those feelings, or even worse, losing yourself in their grip, can be a sign you could benefit from some support in your healing.

5) Take care of yourself

A breakup or divorce can feel like a sort of death. There is often a grieving process, almost certainly some stress from adjusting to life without your partner. It is vital that you remember to keep yourself well, both physically and emotionally. Eat well, get enough sleep, and don’t be afraid to reach out to your friends and family when you need support. Seek therapy if you would like to speak to someone who can help you through this journey.

6) When it isn’t working

What if your best efforts to interact with your ex are not reciprocated? Your boundaries are not respected, communication is full of anger and blame, and the kids are being pulled into the middle of your battles with your ex. Plan B: all of the above tips still apply, but in cases where you and your ex cannot communicate without hostility and you find yourself stressed, frustrated, and even afraid for the safety of yourself and your children, it’s time to think about external support. Couples therapy can help the two of you learn to navigate your separation more amicably, and therapy for your children can provide support as well. Family court can offer a mediator to assist with staying within the terms of your divorce and child custody agreement. And in the most extreme cases, the court can revise agreements, enact restraining orders, or help you both adhere to the terms of your separation.

Most often, time is what is most needed to help heal old wounds as your relationship with your ex is redefined and you both move on. Don’t hesitate to reach out for help if you need it – whether you would benefit from a neutral, supportive environment to establish new tools for dealing with one another after separation, or you require intervention to turn down the heat of past pain and anger.

Movie Review: Dream House (2011)

Dream House had plenty of potential with its story, despite the fact that it’s completely derivative of two other movies. Revealing those films would spoil the surprise, as they are both popular and well-received by audiences and critics alike. The shame is not in the copycat techniques but rather in the failure to exploit the stolen ideas to the fullest extent. Dream House fuses the plots cleverly, but fizzles when the first big reveal can be guessed 45 minutes in (if not sooner) – and is then purposely betrayed at the one hour mark so that audiences can ponder and digest the not-so-shocking revelation.

Will Atenton (Daniel Craig) has finally decided to quit his job as an editor at GPH Publishers to spend more time with his wife Libby (Rachel Weisz) and kids (Taylor and Claire Geare) and to start writing a book. He moves to a large house in rural Fairfield County, which holds a dark history. In his new home, undisclosed by his realtor, a father brutally murdered his wife and kids. Will eventually learns that the unhinged man, Peter Ward, spent five years in a psychiatric ward and was then released – to a halfway house nearby.

Will’s children aren’t too fond of the considerable dwelling, especially when they see a mysterious man watching them through the window. Fresh footprints in the snow support their sighting, and Will is repeatedly awoken by bumps in the night. The neighbor across from him, Ann Patterson (Naomi Watts), knows something of Ward’s incarceration, but refuses to divulge information. Everyone in the town seems rather tight-lipped about the deadly incident, and Will takes it upon himself to get to the bottom of it. When someone continues to harass his family by stalking the house, he visits Ward’s institution to uncover some startling evidence.

An accomplished, celebrated cast of characters gives Dream House a higher quality (than its B-movie origins) and greater promise. Some will say they’re wasted on this script, but it’s not as dismal as that. Unfortunately, it’s the kind of storyline that needs polishing, a few more solid thrills, and smarter twists – or at least more intelligent psychological zigzags. The serene music compliments the sense of foreboding that steadily creeps into the picture, along with the savvy use of mirrors, reflections, general mise en scene, and shuddersome environment (namely the hallway and basement). Most of it is gimmicky but effective. But as with any mystery, the solution is the most crucial aspect – it’s the one element that proves most memorable and determines whether or not the film will be recognized as unique. If a whodunit concedes a letdown, even its high points are unlikely to be forgiven.

What to Say to Women – 3 Ways to Use Conversation to Get Her Turned ON

The art of face to face conversation is quickly becoming a lost art, as more and more people rely on text messages and instant messages to communicate with people. Add in to the mix that most guys were never that good at conversation with women anyway, and you can see how just the act of holding a conversation with a woman can be a problem. The thing of it is, talking can be one of the simplest, yet most effective ways to turn on a woman.

While we as men get turned on by visual stimuli (think swimsuits and strippers), women get aroused more from their emotions and it is conversation that will really be able to generate that emotional response that you need in order to get her turned on. If you really want to get your social life in gear and you want to be the kind of man that women want to be with intimately, then you NEED to learn how to use conversation as a way to get her turned on.

You have to know what to say to women and how to say it. Here are 3 tips on what to say to women that will help you kick things off:

1) Pay her a compliment, but be sure that she is worthy of it.

Don’t tell her something that she will know is pretty far fetched. That makes the compliment basically worthless and won’t do a thing to get her turned on. What will work is to take something that you know most men won’t compliment her on and use that. For example, if you notice that a woman seems to have on a lot of one color, you can assume that this is probably one of her favorite colors. Tell her that it looks very nice on her, and be sure to mention that color.

Example of what to say to a woman: You are out on the street and you pass by a woman wearing a lot of purple. You assume that this is a color that she is particularly fond of and you say something like, “Hey, I just wanted to say that purple works really well on you. Some women can’t pull it off, but you can.”

2) Pick out a body part that is not usually thought of as being “sexual” and give her a compliment on that.

Women get used to and actually dread hearing things about the more sexually suggestive body parts. Yeah, there are some that don’t mind it, but on the off chance that you come across one who does, that is not where you want to go with this. A pretty safe body part to use is the eyes. There is a lot to be said about noticing a woman’s eye color and making a comment on that.

Example of what to say to a woman: You are face to face with a woman and you notice that her eyes are brown, but not the normal shade of brown that you are used to seeing. You say something like, “Your eyes are an interesting shade of brown. Not what I am used to seeing. I kind of like that.”

3) Compliment her on her choice of literature.

This works better if you are in a busy area with a lot of “street traffic.” When in these kinds of situations, it’s not uncommon to see a woman walking by holding a book or a newspaper and that is something that most men are not going to compliment her on. Use that to begin a longer conversation with her,.

Example of what to say to a woman: You are walking by a woman and you notice that she is clutching a copy of the Wall Street Journal. You comment on that with something like “I see you have the Wall Street Journal with you. Into business are you? I like that.”

These kinds of examples of what to say to women work well because they are not what most other guys are going to focus on. It seems less like you are just another guy with a cheesy line and more like you actually have genuine interest in her. And it adds a little depth to your character on first impression. These are the kinds of things that will evoke the right emotions to help her get turned on by you. As you can see, none of the examples are overtly sexual.

The Secrets of Correctly Stringing Your Guitar

Why do you care about stringing your guitar you may ask. Well the reason is simple. It will make you sound better because if your guitar is properly strung, you will get longer natural sustain.

This is something that no fx pedal can reproduce, clean natural sustain. Of course after you have this sustain you can play with it all you want with your fx pedals.

Many guitarist make the same mistake when stringing a guitar, they don’t wind enough of the string onto the tuning peg or they wind too much.

Why is this seemingly simple thing so important? Because the greater the angle between the nut (the top part of the guitar) and the tuning peg, the better the sustaining qualities of the string. Simply put, it makes you sound better. And your strings will not go out of tune as fast. Of course you can always wind too much as well, and then the strings will tend to slip out of tune easier. You want to have just the right amount.

Here is how to string your guitar.

Step 1 – Take all the strings out of the package and lay them out from the thickest to the thinnest. When you go to buy strings, always try and get the same gauge, as changing the gauge could mean problems with intonation, and may require truss rod adjustments.

Step 2 – Turn the tuning peg until the hole is in line with the neck.

Step 3 – Starting with the thickest string – The low “e”, thread the string through the bridge (bottom part of the guitar). Each guitar has different ways to do this, but it is usually very easy to see where the strings go.

Step 4 – Next thread the string through the hole in the tuning peg until it is tight. Now back the string up about 3 inches so that it loosens.

Step 5 – Grab the loose part of the string with one hand and with the other start turning the tuning peg. As you turn the peg, hold the string tightly away from the guitar to insure that it wraps tightly, with no slack. This will stop the string from going out of tune as you’re playing. When the string is getting tight against the fretboard, You can let go and continue to slowly turn the peg a little bit more and then top.

Step 6 – Make sure as you turn the peg that the string is winding downward, and don’t let it flip over itself. Your goal is tog et about 2 1/2 to 3 full winds on each string.

Step 7 – Repeat the process with all other strings, but decrease the amount of slack a little bit each time.

All the best,

Tom Freeland

Tips For A Lasting Marriage

My parents gave me this advice about marriage. They have been married since the 1960s and are still happily married to each other.

In marriage, when an argument is about to blow up, remember that takes 2 hands to clap. When one party is angry, the other should be understanding and not argue back. The calmer party should try to listen the cry, the hurt behind the upset.

Marriage [http://www.wedding-ideas.net/Tips-for-a-lasting-marriage.htm] is a life long journey together. Not simply a boat you get on together and get off when it does not work out.

Look at the old couples who are still together after so many decades. Their love has matured from a passionate lust to a deep, lasting love. How did they do it?

As you go through life together, you are bound to irritate one another. Nothing is so smooth as the movies might want you to believe. Little things that never bothered you initially might start getting on your nerves. That is normal. Your spouse is not perfect. Neither are you.

Marriage is about love. Love is about acceptance. Forgiveness. A love that is deeper than a rush of passionate lust. Tolerance. Of adapting to one another.

All humans are tempted. Temptation is everywhere. Succumbing to temptation and having an affair could mean the end of a marriage, or at very least endangering it greatly. Always remember your spouse. Consciously stay faithful to protect your marriage.

While preparing for your wedding, keep in mind that this is just the first step in your future lives of love together.

Tips to Maintain Long Distance Relationship

There is no need to rake up high phone bills or overuse the internet for chatting. Still how is it possible to be in a long distance relationship with poles apart?

The first rule for a lasting relationship over a long distance is to gain someone’s trust. You will be aiming in thin air if there is no trust between you and your partner. Otherwise, it will just be a simple relation that lasted as long as the bubble on the water.

Communication is very important. It makes no difference if you are using a webcam to see the person physically. In long distance relations, the physical attraction comes in the second part when you two decide to meet. The first part is gaining the trust which comes only through communication like chatting or voice calling.

They say attitude is everything. Your attitude too matters a lot. Are you with your boyfriend or girlfriend just casually or are you serious? Some are there just to pass their time while some are really serious. Once this is ascertained then you know where you stand and also how far to pursue this long distance relationship. Obviously if things work out, it’s the bonus.

There are some people who have never met the person but entered a very healthy long distance relationship. You may wonder how all this evolved. It may be hard to understand but it’s true. It’s the positive approach that makes the difference.

Remember, a long distance relationship is never boring. There is always the excitement of visualizing your partner (if you haven’t seen him or her on webcam). The suggestion is, even if you have the facility don’t use the webcam in your early days. Let the excitement remain and see how beautiful the world is.

Take up tasks and visualize what you are doing it with each other. Enter a world of virtual reality. Watch TV, go to the movies, talk about the day’s happenings and see what magic this sort of interaction does to your relationship.

It needs no mentioning that sending gifts is another great idea. But bring excitement by sending gifts to postage addresses if possible and use normal paper letters.

Small things will take your long distance relationship to a higher level.

Water Purification Manual for Mobile Auto Detailing

Every mobile auto detailer must be concerned with the quality of their water to insure that they are able to work without causing water spots. It is also important to have a set of policies to insure clean water and an operations manual to back them up and prevent employees from spotting cars and expensive SUVs. An un maintained De-Ionized system can accumulate toxic acids which will eventually discharge if the units are not recharged properly or the testing unit fails.

Below is an outline, which you may wish to print out to help you in making your own water purification operations manual. Since you may have chosen a different system of water purification that we use in our company, you will wish to slightly modify the outline. Go ahead and print this article and then modify the outline to fit your water purification strategy and then write 2-3 paragraphs for each number and letter item. This will become your rough draft for your water purification operations manual. This should take you about 4-6 hours to do correctly and you will be glad you did.
